How Do I Wash Clip In Hair Extensions?

At Additional Lengths, we understand that of course, you want to get the most out of your clip-in hair extensions. The key way of doing this is ensure you are following our aftercare advice which includes washing...

Overall, washing the hair gets rid of any products you’ve applied, any smells from a variety environments, and also revives the look of the extensions. At Additional Lengths, we place a high importance on haircare and the care of all hair extensions. We want you to enjoy wearing the extensions, and feel good doing so!

Follow our step by step guide on how to wash human hair clip-in extensions and get them looking their best and feeling fresh.

Step 1: Prepare The Hair For Washing

As with your natural hair, it’s important to brush or comb the hair before washing to smooth out any tangles or knots so it’s easier to wash. For ease, lay the hair pieces together on a flat surface to do this.

We love the Remi Cachet Paddle Brush. This is your everyday essential hairbrush which is impressive in detangling and removing any tough knots and tangles... a perfect way to prep the hair before washing.

Step 2: Fill The Bath Or Sink With Lukewarm Water

Lay the human hair extensions in a sink or bath of lukewarm water, avoiding getting the clip in sections wet so you can hold them comfortably. It’s easier to wash all of the hair pieces together, rather than individually.

Step 3: Use Normal Shampoo And Conditioner

Mix some shampoo in with the lukewarm water to create a soapy ‘bath’ for the hair and pop the clip-ins in, ensuring that they are thoroughly immersed in the shampoo water.

Then, lift the hair pieces from the sink and drain the water, leaving the wet clip-ins ready for shampoo and conditioner. Rub the products gently into the mid-lengths and ends to cleanse them effectively.

Remi Cachet has a variety of hair extension products including a Shampoo and Conditioner. Infused with the brands signature scent, strawberry and cucumber, the shampoo is gentle on the hair to cleanse away impurities whilst leaving it smelling clean and fresh. Moreover, the conditioner is formulated with invigorating ingredients such as organ oil to leave it looking rejuvenated and feeling silky soft.

Even better, we now have the pair to purchase together on our website. The duo will give your hair extensions the care they need...

Step 4: Rinse

After shampooing and conditioning the hair, rinse thoroughly under a running tap of lukewarm water. Any remaining shampoo or conditioner can leave the hair looking greasy and lank, so make sure you’re rinsing well, until the water runs clear with no bubbles.

Step 5: Squeeze Hair To Get Rid Of Excess Water And Brush Out Tangles

Just as you would with your own natural hair, gently squeeze the water out from top to bottom using a towel such as the Remi Cachet Extensions Towel to remove most of the moisture. Use comb to smooth down the hair gently and ensure there are no tangles. When it comes to combing your hair extensions when wet, we always recommend the Remi Cachet Wave Comb to gently get rid of troublesome tangles.

Step 6: Leave To Dry Naturally

Set the damp extensions on a flat surface or hang them up to dry naturally with the Remi Cachet which is perfect for this.

Or, if you want to blow dry them, ensure you always use a heat protectant such as the Remi Cachet Miracle Mist to protect them from harsh temperatures.

Tip: We would recommend that if you wear your clip-in extensions on a daily basis, give them a wash at the times you would your own hair.
