Unlike non-remy human hair, with the correct aftercare and maintenance, our extensions maintain their natural shine throughout wear, even with washing. 

While all Remi Cachet extensions are made with the same remy quality human hair, their lifespan varies according to their application type, and how thoroughly you care for them. Generally: 

• Tape-ins – 6–12 months, with tapes needing to be retaped and refit every 6-8 weeks 
• Wefts – 6– 2 months, with refit appointments required every 6-8 weeks 
• Pre-bonded – 3–6 months, with refit appointments required every 3 months 

Real remy hair extensions are defined by intact, unidirectional cuticles, which can be felt on touching. The hair feels entirely smooth when stroked downwards and creates a light friction when stroked upwards.  

New non-remy human hair often feels entirely slick and smooth when stroked in either direction, with a visibly unnatural shine. That’s because manufacturers strip the cuticles using chemicals, then coat the hair in silicone to create the illusion of natural smoothness, which does not last with wear. 

Temporary clip-in extensions should always be removed before swimming. 

You can swim while wearing tape-in, pre-bonded and weft Remi Cachet hair extensions, but extra care and attention are recommended to keep them looking their best. Exposure to chlorine or saltwater can dry out real remy hair, causing matting and potential discoloration, depending on your shade.  

To avoid this, before swimming: 

1. Protect: Prep for a swim by saturating your remy hair extensions in fresh water, so chlorinated or salty water can’t enter the cuticle. 
2. Condition: Apply a leave-in conditioning treatment to provide a moisture barrier. Choose one with UV protection if you’ll be in the sun. 
3. Secure: Keep your hair out of the water as much as possible by tying it up into a secure braid or sleek bun. You could also wear an XL swimming cap to keep your hair out of the water entirely, but ensure it’s not too tight to avoid pulling on the bonds of your extensions. 

After swimming: 

1. Rinse: Immediately rinse out any salt or chlorine with fresh water. 
2. Detangle: While your human hair extensions are still wet, gently comb out any knots. 

3. Treat: Apply a generous amount of hydrating conditioner, hair mask or hair oil to nourish the shine of your remy hair extensions. 

You should wash your Remi Cachet real remy hair extensions between one and three times per week, depending on the application method, how often you wear them, and how much product you use in them. 

Over washing can prematurely dry your remy hair extensions, leading to frizz and damage, and overall shortening their life span.
