Hair Colours We Expect To Trend In Autumn 2022

Autumn is approaching fast, where did summer even go? But the real question is will you be looking for a new look for the season? We have done some research and come up with some looks we certainly think will be making an impact this Autumn that may just inspire you…

Tweed Blonde

Who What Wear has highlighted this as one of the top colours colourists will be dying their hair for Autumn. This takes on board the thoughts of Jordanna Cobella, salon owner, Wella Top Artist and hair education author (to name a few) she highlights this colour as the ultimate “it girl blonde” shade, so if you fancy a look that screams just that, this colour may just be for you.

Jordanna further explains that the colour is ideal for those who are looking to “embrace their natural blonde, with fine woven pieces of both warm and cool tones merged harmoniously”. Sounds gorgeous.

Not only does this colour sound gorgeous but it also looks it… check out this stunning look from @cj.hairdressing who used colour 9/55 to create this.

Copper Red

It strikes again. We highlighted this look back in June here when talking about what we think the hottest colours were for the year so far and this colour doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon.

Who What Wear have also highlighted this as one of the other colours expected to be trending over Autumn. This time it’s a prediction from Daniel Couch, head colour at Russell Eaton salon in Leeds, Most Wanted Colour Expert Finalist 2022 and Wella Professional Craft Expert (again, to name a few). Daniel describes this as the “girl next door copper” with a rise in requests following the likes of Phoebe Dynevor and Sophie Turner working this shade beautifully and it’s only going to continue.

These big names shouldn’t be the only sources of inspiration for this colour for you, you only need to take a look down our feed to be inundated with inspiration.

One of our favourites has to be this bold look created by @laurenmcmanus_hmua for her client using our colour 33.

Mocha Brunette

If you are wanting a new season glow up from honey-kissed brunette to this rich and deep tone or even just a brand new colour altogether, this colour may just be for you.

Jenna Perry, New York-based celebrity hairstyles and founder of “Jenna Perry Hair Studio” (she is also the stylist who did her magic on Bella Hadid’s brunette transformation - so basically a genius) explains to Mane Addicts that this shade is perfect for those who are “looking for a more traditional fall brunette” further explaining that this is a “timeless brunette shade and words with many skin tones”

Jenna isn’t the only one forecasting this colour trend, with Shvonne Perkins, Lead Educator at Madison Reed an American brand of haircare and colour products explains to Glamour Magazine, “This autumn, we'll see super high-shine solid brunettes taking the stage with dark mocha brunette”. This is following the various graduations of the tones over the last year such as Expensive Brunette and Louis Vuitton brunette.

Hailey Bieber, Nicola Peltz and Jessica Alba are just some of the big names that have been embracing the shade over the past few weeks. And of course, this colour has already been making an impact on our Instagram feed such as this look by @hairextensionsbyjade_norwich using colour 2.

Velcro roller FAQs

  • Do Velcro rollers need heat to work?

Velcro hair rollers can be used to achieve stunning results with or without heat. Using your hair dryer to apply heat speeds up the setting process, delivering bouncy curls in minutes.

However, Velcro hair rollers can be worn to bed, where their clip-free design means they shouldn’t disturb your beauty sleep. Simply apply to dry hair as part of your bedtime routine, and wake up in 6–8 hours to effortless bounce.

Both heated and heat-free Velcro roller methods deliver impressive volume and hold.

  • Can I use Velcro rollers on hair extensions?

Velcro rollers can be used on human hair extensions just the same as your own hair. Follow all the instructions and advice in this guide to get the best results from Velcro-rolling your hair extensions, and take extra care to avoid tangling, especially close to the bonds.

  • What size of Velcro rollers should I use?

The best size of Velcro hair rollers depends on your desired look:

    • Jumbo (2+ inches): Best for root lift and smoothing.
    • Large (1.5–2 inches): Loose waves and mega volume.
    • Medium (1–1.5 inches): Balanced volume with more definition.
    • Small (0.5–1 inch): Tighter curls and bounce.

  • Why do my rollers keep slipping out?

If your rollers keep slipping out, try working in smaller sections, add a spritz of texture spray, and secure withcurlerclipsfor extra hold.

  • Why do my curls look uneven?

Uneven results usually mean uneven rolling technique. To remedy this, keep your sections consistent, apply heat and cooling time evenly, and check your roller placement from root to tip.

  • Can I combine Velcro rollers with other hair styling tools?

Velcro rollers play well with other hair styling tools. Use them after curling irons to lock curls in shape, or roll sections post-straightening for extra volume and smoothness. They’re also perfect for adding hidden lift to half-up styles or popping in after a blow-dry for a polished finish.

  • Should you put Velcro rollers in wet hair?

You should not apply rollers to wet hair. Instead, apply to almost dry or completely dry hair for best results.

  • How long should you leave your hair in Velcro rollers?

If opting for a heat-free rolling technique, leave your hair in rollers for 6–8 hours for best results. Some people choose to do this overnight.

If setting your Velcro hair rollers with heat, they’ll be ready to remove in minutes.

Don’t underestimate the power of Velcro hair rollers – they’re a low-effort, high-impact tool that transforms flat hair into full-bodied drama. Ready to get unrivalled volume, shape, and bounce? Shop Velcro rollers here
