Autumn 2023 Hair Colour Trends

The wholesome season has arrived; the pumpkin spiced lattes are being ordered, the scented candles are being lit and the cosy jumpers are replacing summer dresses in our wardrobes… autumn is here. This means it is time for our seasonal predictions. We have been doing our research and found the four colours we think will be trending in autumn. Here is our list to save you from the hard work before your next consultation (you’re welcome)...

Cowgirl Copper

First up is the colour that has been all over our FYP on TikTok and it has been trending for a reason, Cowgirl Copper is simply beautiful.

Described by top New York City colourist, Jenna Perry to Refinery29 as "a really playful colour…a muted copper red that goes with most skin tones",  it’s not just TikTok and Refinery29 talking about this colour. Stylecaster, The Zoe Report and Bustle are just some of online magazines talking about this trend, so could this be the colour of the season?

To meet the description by Jenna Perry, we would totally recommend a mix of colours for your look, just like @emily.katehair and @goldielockshairextensions_ have done for their clients using both colours 33 and 30 to create a stunning blend that matches the trend perfectly.

Midnight Onyx

As the days are getting darker, is it time to switch up your colour to a darker shade? Could Midnight Onyx be the one? Professional colourist Diana Mildice describes the shade as “a rich black with added shine treatments to make the hair look reflective". So, we say that if you pair this with a super straight, glass hair look (using the Qute Wide Styler and Dream Coat Supernatural Spray 200ml and Remi Cachet Hair Oil ) you’re so on trend…

Plus, calling this shade “Witchy Brunette” (perfect for Halloween season, are we right?!”) Glamour magazine have named this colour as one that is “brewing up a storm”. Top hairstylist and forecaster Tom Smith explains that “There’s been no shortage of ‘Barbiecore’ references around this year and it’s the rules of global trends that when one polarity is popular, the opposite is also often true”. Colour and trend ambassador Jordanna Copela agrees with Tom, adding “Dark brown and almost black will be big this AW23.”

So what inspiration can we give you? You may be wondering. Well, these looks created by @amybamextensions and @ellebellehair use colour 1 with @amybamextensions also mixing colour 1b in her look…

Chocolate Shades

Making the list to Glamour’s “The Coolest Fall Hair Colours To Try This Season”, Dark Chocolate Brunette is described as the “epitome of expensive luxury hair”. Further explaining, master colorist and lead educator Shvonne Perkins says the colour as one that “complements just about everyone, plus delivers and instant sophistication and edge”... “Dark chocolate brunette welcomes in cooler brown tones for an all-over rich brunette shade that adds depth and dimension to your look for fall.”

It doesn’t stop with Glamour loving this colour, Marie Claire have done a whole article on the stunning colour…”Chocolate hair is the trend to know for autumn” expert hair stylist Tyler Moore states “Whether you have an undone bob, a lob hairstyle or even like to sport mermaid waves, trust us when we say chocolate hair tones might be for you”. "The key to chocolate hair is keeping it warm and introducing several different tones. We love a balayage for this as you can create a dimensional range of highlights that look like melted chocolate,” So, if you fancy this trend this autumn, we reckon multiple shades are for you.

Why not take some inspiration from these beautiful creations by @hannahwiththegoodhairx and @extensions.by.em getting this trend sooo right (how gorgeous?).

Expensive Bronde

Another predicted hit for the season according to Glamour is “Expensive Bronde”, a great choice for those who don’t identify as a blonde but are curious to play with lighter tones, or for those who have been bold and blonde for a while and are tempted by a deeper shade,” So if this sounds like you, maybe “Expensive Bronde” is your calling?

Here are a couple of our favourite looks with this beautiful colour…

Velcro roller FAQs

  • Do Velcro rollers need heat to work?

Velcro hair rollers can be used to achieve stunning results with or without heat. Using your hair dryer to apply heat speeds up the setting process, delivering bouncy curls in minutes.

However, Velcro hair rollers can be worn to bed, where their clip-free design means they shouldn’t disturb your beauty sleep. Simply apply to dry hair as part of your bedtime routine, and wake up in 6–8 hours to effortless bounce.

Both heated and heat-free Velcro roller methods deliver impressive volume and hold.

  • Can I use Velcro rollers on hair extensions?

Velcro rollers can be used on human hair extensions just the same as your own hair. Follow all the instructions and advice in this guide to get the best results from Velcro-rolling your hair extensions, and take extra care to avoid tangling, especially close to the bonds.

  • What size of Velcro rollers should I use?

The best size of Velcro hair rollers depends on your desired look:

    • Jumbo (2+ inches): Best for root lift and smoothing.
    • Large (1.5–2 inches): Loose waves and mega volume.
    • Medium (1–1.5 inches): Balanced volume with more definition.
    • Small (0.5–1 inch): Tighter curls and bounce.

  • Why do my rollers keep slipping out?

If your rollers keep slipping out, try working in smaller sections, add a spritz of texture spray, and secure withcurlerclipsfor extra hold.

  • Why do my curls look uneven?

Uneven results usually mean uneven rolling technique. To remedy this, keep your sections consistent, apply heat and cooling time evenly, and check your roller placement from root to tip.

  • Can I combine Velcro rollers with other hair styling tools?

Velcro rollers play well with other hair styling tools. Use them after curling irons to lock curls in shape, or roll sections post-straightening for extra volume and smoothness. They’re also perfect for adding hidden lift to half-up styles or popping in after a blow-dry for a polished finish.

  • Should you put Velcro rollers in wet hair?

You should not apply rollers to wet hair. Instead, apply to almost dry or completely dry hair for best results.

  • How long should you leave your hair in Velcro rollers?

If opting for a heat-free rolling technique, leave your hair in rollers for 6–8 hours for best results. Some people choose to do this overnight.

If setting your Velcro hair rollers with heat, they’ll be ready to remove in minutes.

Don’t underestimate the power of Velcro hair rollers – they’re a low-effort, high-impact tool that transforms flat hair into full-bodied drama. Ready to get unrivalled volume, shape, and bounce? Shop Velcro rollers here
