Top 5 SS18 Holiday Hair Trends

We’ve been dreaming of summer for what feels like forever, and finally it’s approaching and we can focus on our summer wardrobe and upcoming holiday plans! Whether you’re hitting the beaches of tropical islands or planning a staycation this summer, keep your hair looking fabulous throughout the sunny weather with the top five holiday hair trends that we predict are going to be huge for summer 2018.

  1. Glitter hair

Starting off our favourite SS18 hair trends, we’re embracing the essential festival hair look – glitter! Glitter makeup has long been a staple in our summer party makeup bag; it offers a chance to get glammed up and create a unique, playful look that can translate well for nights out or all-day festivals. If you’re hitting a summer festival abroad this year, such as Primavera or Benicassim in Spain, make sure you pack extra glitter to add to your hair as a finishing touch before leaving the tent!

Explore the magic of glitter hair by adding it to some hair gel for extra longevity before adding it to a centre parting. We love the look of extra cute hair buns or fishtail braids, which not only keep your hair off your face in hot weather, but also adds an extra dimension to the hair so it provides more texture for the glitter to stick to. You could also experiment using glitter with stars in various colours to flatter your hair colour; a silver for a subtle look or a coloured glitter for a party vibe.

  1. Dare to get a fringe

Summer is the perfect time to take the plunge and get that fringe you’ve always been dreaming about! It was a big hair trend on the catwalks for designers such as Tom Ford and Fendi, with choppy, messy fringes framing the faces of their models. A light and feathery fringe is a lovely feminine hairstyle to try out for summer. Sweeping side fringes can can be a great introduction to the fringe if you’re unsure of the best length for your face shape.

A fringe can also be a good way to thin out the length of your hair if your thick hair becomes too warm in the summer. Not ready to commit to a fringe? Clip-in fringes can be the ideal solution for a temporary change, or a way to test if you’d suit a permanent fringe! We stock various clip-in fringe styles as part of our clip-in hair extensions department here at Additional Lengths that offers a natural looking faux fringe.

  1. Pump up the volume

Voluminous hair full of texture is another holiday hair trend that everyone can get on board with this year. From bouncy curls to roughed up waves, pack a punch with thick and voluminous tresses which can be worn down for an ‘I woke up like this’ look, or styled into a messy bun for a beach-ready hairstyle.

Use heated hair tools such as a curling wand to add that all important texture to the hair, and shake out with the fingers before using plenty of texturising spray to break up the curl definition. Perfect beach hair awaits!

  1. Retro is back

Not just reserved for our holiday hair trends list, but retro hair has seen a return on the catwalks and we’re excited for it to take over as a major popular hairstyle for 2018. Think a mid-length cut with rounded ends, blunt fringes, and bobs with deep side partings. Take hairstyle inspiration from the likes of Margot Robbie and Bella Hadid as your post girls for the retro hair look, and finish with a pair of cat eye sunglasses for extra cool points.

  1. Accessorise with barrettes and headbands

A cool hair accessory that fits in perfectly with the retro hairstyle vibe is something that suits all hair types and lengths: the barette. The Versace catwalk saw models donning the double barrette with a simple clip-on hair accessory either side of a centre parting for a sleek look that is ideal for summer nights out.

Holiday hair accessorising doesn’t come much more simpler than a quirky, silky hairband. A bright, tropical pattern can really invigorate any hair type or colour and can be worn with the hair down or up! Keeping the hair out of your face and adding a pop of colour, a hairband is the ultimate versatile hair accessory. Add a few hair bands to your suitcase for easy yet stylish holiday hair in seconds.

We hope that we’ve given you some holiday hair inspiration and summer hairstyle options to consider for your next hair move for the upcoming season change. If you’re keen to get those much loved beachy waves, take a look at our Remi Cachet hair extensions for beautiful long locks that you can play with this summer to create luxurious beachy waves.

2018 Hair Colour Trend Alert: Ultraviolet

Colouring our hair is a great way to express ourselves to the world, and if you’re feeling ready for a change or a temporary pop of colour in 2018, then explore the latest hair colour trend for a fashionable update – ultraviolet. We’ve heard of unexpected purple hair on bleached blondes when they’ve used a touch too much of purple toner shampoo, but why not try out the mystical colour intentionally? As Pantone have announced ‘Ultra Violet’ as their official Colour Of The Year 2018, we’re getting ready to embrace a whole new world of the visionary colour.

There many ways to incorporate this purple hair trend into your current look, including lightening the hair (if you’re a brunette) before diving in with a purple hair dye, adding coloured hair extensions or opting for semi permanent hair colouring products. A bright, rich colour such as purple has the tendency to fade quickly, so if you’re opting for the permanent dye, take into consideration the upkeep!

50 shades of purple

There’s a whole spectrum of the colour purple, and it can take a moment to figure out which shade you’re keen in trusting with your hair. From the aforementioned darker violet, to a sweet lavender, take into consideration your skin tone and hair type when deciding a shade of purple. While previously it’s been all about those lilac and pastel shades, this year we’ll be seeing darker purple hues come to the forefront of hair dying.

‘Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.’ – Pantone

An inspiring dark purple hair trend can be all you need to push the boundaries and get you out of that hair colour rut! You can also work in several shades of purple for a multi tonal finish, or stick to one hue and add it in one section for a subtle addition. If you have light coloured remy clip-in hair extensions and you’ve recently dyed your hair purple, then you can use a purple dye on the hair extensions to ensure that you match!

So, how bold would you dare to go?

How to get purple hair without using dye

Sometimes a special occasion will motivate us to consider something completely new with our regular style, but often times, we want it be a temporary thing. There are several non-permanent ways to add purple to your hair, and at Additional Lengths, we have a few products that may help you achieve those rich velvety purple hues!

Those with light coloured hair or with highlights could adopt the purple hair colour trend with the use of a wash in/wash out product such as the Color Rub in Pyro Purple from Hair Flairs. Kind to the hair, a coloured chalk can be rubbed directly onto the hair from root to tip in sections for a fun pop of colour for a party, then can be easily washed out with no colour residue remaining. Purple hair chalk can be just what you need to get the shade onto your hair in no time, with minimal commitment.

Get a flash of colour in your fringe or under section of hair with the Flip-In Hair colour flash clip-in extensions which are made using real human hair for extra quality. All bold shades are catered for with their range of colourful clip in hair extensions which can be used for a subtle or bold addition of colour, no matter your own hair colour. Choose the purple clip in and secure to your natural hair easily to enjoy a few hours of vibrant colour before removing at the end of the day!

Our last suggestion of a temporary way to add violet to your hair comes from our very own Additional Lengths collection of feather hair extensions. This type of hair extension is a playful way to introduce extra intrigue and dimension to your own hair, and the purple feathers combined with plain and grizzly feathers are ideal for a night out! This kind of extension product can be attached using micro or silicone rings, and can even be added to the hair securely with normal hair extension clips for an easy to remove fit.

Here at Additional Lengths, we are big fans of this latest hair colour trend and can’t wait to see more customers embrace the ultra violet shade. From a full head of permanent purple hair dye for a unique look, to temporary pops of colour using non-permanent products, we’re sure that you’ll fall in love with this popular hair colour this year.

The Best Celebrity Hair Looks From 2017

The omnipresence of the celebrity world means that we are all influenced by our favourite celebs in some way, and more often than not, it’s their envious hair and beauty that gets us talking. With makeup gurus and professional stylists at their daily disposal, celebrity hair and makeup for the red carpet or other promotional events are always on point. If you’ve ever taken a picture of a celebrity into a hair salon with hopes of having the same hairstyle (who hasn’t?), then this Additional Lengths list of the best celebrity hair looks from 2017 is for you.

We’re taking a look at some of the most talked about celebrities of 2017 and focusing on their most beautiful external quality – their hair!

Kylie Jenner

We’re sure that you’ll agree with us when we say that Kylie is queen of changing up her hair looks, and 2017 has been full of amazing hairstyles and colours. The makeup mastermind Kylie Jenner is no stranger to using wigs to switch up her hairstyles, going from her natural, dark long bob to long blonde tresses in the space of one day. Her ice blonde locks for Halloween was a key look, whilst her Kylie Jenner Cosmetics collaboration video with her older sister Khloe Kardashian saw her with stunning ash blonde long hair. However, her trademark look has got to be her beautifully dark brunette hair which she often accentuates with matching hair extensions for even more length and volume. Kylie even embraced the pastel hair colour trend in September by giving her own take on trend with a gorgeous rosé colour.

A post shared by Kylie (@kyliejenner) on

Mirror the Kylie Jenner hairstyles by investing in a high quality human hair wig or hair on a wire product from our ranges here at Additional Lengths. Not only do they provide extra length at a moments notice, they also provide volume to lacklustre hair. Minimal commitment is required for our hair on a wire pieces – simply allow the halo of wire to fit over the head, adjust the wire to the shape of your head, and pull your own hair over the wire for a natural finish. Our Halo Hair Extensions come in various lengths and shades, so you can have Kylie Jenner hair in no time.

Ashley Graham

Flying the flag for the plus size modelling industry, American model Ashley Graham has had a great hair year. Racking up magazine covers at Vogue and Grazia, multiple fashion shows and designing her own line of beautiful lingerie, Ms Graham is inspirational in many aspects. Her go-to hairstyle that she adopts with her luxurious brunette locks is old Hollywood waves, parted at the side. Focusing on high shine, Ashley Graham’s hair looks healthy and full of life – exactly what we all hope for our own hair!

The famous model is also a fan of bohemian beachy waves that offer a low maintenance finish without compromising on the overall look. So, how do you do the perfect beachy waves? Luckily here at Additional Lengths we stock a great range of electric hair stylers to help you get those fresh off the beach loose waves. Use a Cloud Nine curling wand to create waves in the hair and let them drop naturally so the curl isn’t too tight. Muss up the hair with a texturising sea salt spray for Ashley Graham inspired hair.

Cara Delevingne

Not one to shy away from attention, this attention grabbing starlet shocked many fans with her drastic hair change in 2017. The Cara Delevingne hair crop saw her say goodbye to her infamous long dark blonde hair, and opt for a shaved head – a look that she totally pulled off effortlessly. In her 2017 Burberry campaign Cara displayed a punky bleached blonde cropped hair in a short pixie cut which showed off her signature dark brows perfectly. Our obsession with Cara Delevingne’s hair has really been taken up a step up this year, and has got to be one of our favourite celebrity hairstyles of 2017.

Ariana Grande

This superstar has really left her mark on this year, and her distinctive ponytail hairstyle is undeniably influenced 2017 hair trends. The Ariana Grande high ponytail is a classic look that she wears wonderfully, with her long thick hair tied up at the crown, and left straight or delicately curled for flattering flowing waves. Towards the end of the year, she treated her usually dark hair to a blonde transformation, though the darker locks will always be synonymous with her trademark hairstyle!

A post shared by Ariana Grande (@arianagrande) on

Get your own Ariana Grande long ponytail by smoothing your hair upwards and securing with a hair tie, and taking a small section of hair to wrap around the ponytail at the base for extra texture. We recommend using a clip on ponytail to achieve the extreme length Ariana is famous for, and with the slight curl at the end, it will look super natural to boot. An easy celebrity hairstyle to emulate, and a great way to look on trend without much effort – perfect!

What Are The 2018 Hair Trends To Look Out For?

All of the chocolate has been eaten, the decorations are coming down and the mince pies are long gone. For many people, the upcoming new year will ignite a feeling of change, and the first place we tend to think of is our appearance, and more often than not, it’s our hair that gets the main focus. Whether you’re bored of your current hair colour, or fancy going a few inches shorter at your next hair styling appointment, taking note of the hair trends will no doubt provide some inspiration. We’ve taken a look at the best 2018 hair trends and looks to watch out for, read ahead for the Additional Lengths take on what to expect.

Haircuts, colours & styles

The start of a new year often sparks inspiration in many to change up their current look, and step outside of their comfort zone by trying something new. Whether you’re considering something drastic, or just want to explore possibilities for your current cut and colour, there are many upcoming hair trends that may interest you.

It’s all in the bangs

Yes, that’s right, fringes are making a big comeback in 2018, but did they ever really go away? A popular face-framing technique, the humble fringe has had an update thanks to fashion week shows from designers such as Moschino and Tom Ford who gave their models a boyish, choppy fringe. Lightly feathered fringes are super feminine, whether fake or real! A messy fringe that rests just at the point of the eyebrows will flatter the majority of people, no matter your face shape. Leave your hair in all of its natural texture glory and simply run some serum through the mid lengths and lightly through the fringe to add shine.

Alternatively, a blunt fringe will also bring you right up to date with current hair trends as the thicker fringe taken above the brows is an easy to style look that suits everyone! The blunt fringe will also reflect light wonderfully, making hair look extra shiny, whilst adding a look of thickness to the hair.

Life is peachy

You’ll be aware of the pastel hair colour trend of 2017, with lilac taking the lead in beautiful unexpected pastel tresses. In 2018 though, you can fully embrace the pastel hair colour trend with a whole range of various colours – including peach. A stunning soft light pinky-orange will suit many different skin tones, and can be embraced with a full head or with highlights. Peach will be ideal upgrade for those with blonde hair, with some semi permanent options on the market. For those more adventurous with their hair dye choices, the aquatic tones of blues and greens will definitely hold appeal. Experiment with wash-in hair colours such as the range of colour rub hair chalks from Hair Flairs to try out various colours without the commitment of a dye.

Sweet toffee highlights

Ashy tones are taking a back seat in 2018 with a hair colour trend of toffee highlights or ‘babylights’ already being championed by models and actresses alike. Warm tones such as caramel and toffee work well with all hair colours and can be used to add natural looking highlights to the hair perfectly. Ask your stylist to put the toffee highlights through the mid-lengths to the ends for a sunkissed look.

Low chignons & buns

Nail that model off-duty vibe perfectly by sweeping your hair into a super on trend low chignon. Versatile due to this style suiting many hair types and lengths, a chignon is a chic hairstyle for everyday wear that shows off all of the multi tonal shades in the hair perfectly. Hair buns are a tidy hairstyle that can be ideal for work, but also can be messed up for a night out by bringing tendrils of hair down around the face. Pull the low chignon to the side for an off-centre hairstyle and use a flexible hold hairspray and hair pins for extra staying power.

Take it right to the top with a high bun or top knot that will elongate the appearance of your neck. Keep to the natural hair texture and muss up the ends of the hair for an ‘I woke up like this’ look, or slick back the hair from the crown with a hair oil for a sophisticated finish a la queen of the runway Bella Hadid. This is such a simple hair trend that anyone can achieve!

Hair accessories

According to several high end fashion magazines, such as Harper’s Bazaar, hair embellishments are getting ready to take over our hair accessories collection in 2018. Update French braids with metal clips for a touch of that on-trend metallic touch, or take it back to school with a pretty ribbon tied around a ponytail as a way to inject some colour and dimension to your hairstyle. Hair bands are also set to make a comeback in 2018, but if they conjure up images of ‘Alice In Wonderland’, think again! Simple hair bands that add a touch of decoration to a hairstyle are ideal for a low key look, whilst a statement making diamante hair band will be exactly what you need to wow the crowd for nights out.

Are you thinking of trying something new from our 2018 hair trends forecast? If you want to pep up your look, why not consider making a change to extra long, voluminous hair with our range of Remi Cachet hair extensions that are ideal for a temporary or semi permanent hairstyle change. We cater for all hair colours and offer a colour match service, so get in touch today to find out how we can help you realise your 2018 hair goals!

Hairstyle Ideas: Party Season Edit

It’s that time of the year again! December brings with it the inevitable cold weather, endless repeats of Christmas songs and, of course, plenty of festive party invitations. From the office Christmas party to festive drinks with friends, there’s so many opportunities to experiment with new hairstyles that will showcase your hair perfectly. At Additional Lengths we’re taking hair inspiration from some of our favourite celebs and hairstylists to ensure that we can party like the best of them with our hair looking on point!

From up do’s to wavy hairstyles, read on for some party hairstyle ideas you’ll be excited to try out this festive season.

A sleek ponytail is a timeless hairstyle for all occasions; it keeps hair out of the face, shows off the neck and brings a well groomed finish to any outfit. For the party season, why not mix it up with some extra detailing with your ponytail?

We love the layered look of the multi-hairbands that start at the crown and work their way down the lengths at equally spaced intervals throughout the lengths. Pulled out a little to create more texture, the finished look is a great alternative to a French braid or ponytail! This look is ideal for those with long, thick hair who are wanting a chic hairstyle that still shows off their hair length without overpowering their overall look.

Want to transform your look for the office party but enter 2018 feeling yourself again? Then why not try out a semi permanent hair colour to give you the gift of a different hair shade, albeit temporarily!

If you have 100% Remy human hair extensions fitted, you’re able to dye them, so opt for a festive red tone or mix it up completely and go pastel. We love the sugary sweet shades of lilac and pink for a semi permanent dye option as it looks so unique and unexpected. Treat your hair to the pastel hair dye experience and style as you normally would.

We love the loose waves look with pastel hair as it brings out the different tones and adds dimension. Try out the Cloud Nine curling wand to achieve the look effortlessly and hairspray to hold the waves.

Throw it back to the 1980’s with a mix of different styles that includes a back combed and plaited look for ultra party vibes. Plaiting in rows along the sides but leaving a top section free to backcomb and pin place before taking the back section down into a long plait is a look with many different elements but is totally achievable!

For the extra length, consider applying a hair piece that you can blend with your own hair to create a super long, feminine braid. This is a great Christmas party hairstyle for those who like to push the boat out when it comes to their look.

You could even add a glitter hairspray for extra glamour points and, of course, gold hoops for that 80’s inspired finish.

If you’re looking for a change that will include thickening and elongating the look of your hair, then consider getting some high quality hair extensions from Remi Cachet. In our collection of Remi Cachet hair extensions you’ll find endless colour options of real human hair extensions that come in pre bonded, weft, tape in and clip in extension application methods to suit your needs. We stock ombre, root stretch and dip dye hair extensions for a soft blend of multi-tonal hair colours, and some fantastic base colours, from champagne blonde through to chestnut brown. Impress everyone this festive season with an entirely new look with a head of luxurious new hair extensions that you can style any way you like!

Quick tips to keep your hair looking hot when it’s cold outside

There are so many factors that can affect our hair during the winter season, from central heating to wet weather, so let’s get armed with the know-how on how to solve those tricky hair issues:

  • Static flyaways – Reduce the static in your hair by sleeping on a satin pillow, or if you aren’t into that kind of bedding, try blow drying your hair with an ionic hairdryer and avoid using plastic combs as this may add to the static charge. No more zaps!
  •

  • Frizz – Frizz can come out of nowhere, or be due to the wet weather outside simply ruining our hair before we get to work on a morning. Luckily there are several frizz-free hair care products on the market that can help us maintain a smooth hair look all day long, such as a hair serum and hair conditioners that will calm down any frizz.
  •

  • Dry ends – Cure dry ends once and for all by going for a seasonal trim! Keep hair hydrated in between visits to the hairdressers by using a hair mask or treatment such as the Moroccan Oil hair treatments that deposit moisturising properties in the hair to improve the look of the mid lengths and ends.

So whether you want to try an alternative ponytail, colourful waves, a 1980’s inspired ‘do or a whole new look with some luxurious hair extensions, there are plenty of hairstyles for the party season to experiment with!

Ways To Update Your Blonde Hair This Season

Come wintertime, many people choose to go darker to reflect the season change, but what if you simply want to change up your usual blonde locks without the huge commitment of a completely new hair colour? At Additional Lengths we’re all for experimenting with your hair, whether it’s investing in some premium quality human hair extensions to inject some volume and length into your tresses, or adding accessories such as clip in feather hair extensions. Today we’re taking a look at ways to update blonde hair for the winter season using lowlights, hair extensions and semi permanent hair dyes.

Warm up with golden tones

A great way to warm up blonde hair without taking it all the way darker is to run some golden tones through the hair. Strawberry blonde, cinnamon, golden blonde or even popular rose gold tones can work wonders to liven up blonde hair for winter. Some of the best winter hair colours involve a lighter hair shade, so you don’t necessarily have to turn brunette to stay on trend!

Rich tones for winter are a fail-safe option for those looking to update their look. Using warmer lowlights you can achieve a stunning multi-dimensional dye job, and using a gloss will bring out the right amount of depth. Medium tones expertly blended with the blonde, or applied the underneath section of hair can help build the winter-appropriate hair colour you’re seeking. Opt for the ‘bronde’ look with a combination of brown and blonde hair with caramel pieces throughout the hair for a darker winter colour.

Balayage for winter

If you’d like a subtle change to your blonde hair for winter, then why not try a beautifully toned down balayage? A slightly darker root blended perfectly into lighter mid-lengths and ends can be the ideal hair look for you if you’re seeking an easy to style hair transformation that won’t be too drastic. Balayage is on trend for a very good reason; it’s such a natural looking hair technique that offers subtle light tones, with no harsh or obvious regrowth lines. Discuss with your stylist to find the right colour blend that will go well with your current blonde as a way to get the perfect balayage.

Along a similar line to having the balayage hair technique, you could also explore the possibility of changing your blonde hair for winter with the range of Elegance Flat Tips hair extensions in ombre, dip dye & root stretch from Remi Cachet. The real human hair extensions are suitably blended with a darker tone at the root, seamlessly melting in a lighter shade throughout the lengths to achieve that two-tone effect hair. Ideal for adding volume and length, the high quality hair extensions will take you right through the festive season!

Ice, ice baby

Platinum locks have seen a return in popularity, especially when it’s boosted by a silver hue that brings a certain ethereal look to the hair. The ice blonde look is synonymous with winter and can completely transform your look from wholesome blonde-girl-next-door to a rebellious ice queen a la Taylor Swift. So, whether you’re lusting after the perfect Instagram inspired silver hair or want to go with a classic platinum blonde, update your winter hair look now!

Ice white blonde hair can be harsh on the hair due to the high percentage of bleach involved, so this may be a season only look to experiment with before opting for a less high maintenance, kinder hair colour.

Temporary colour

If you’re not looking for a long lasting difference in hair colour, then why not mix it up for a day or two with some bright pops of colour? Blonde is well known to be a fantastic base for achieving colour vibrancy, so take advantage of this by using some fun hair chalk from Hair Flairs to add unexpected colour to your hair. As winter time brings with it a festive party season, it’s the perfect time to experiment with vibrant hair chalks! At Additional Lengths we stock the Hair Flairs Color Rub products in purple, green, teal, yellow and black for a great choice of colours that can be worn together or separately. Simply apply directly to small sections of hair – we recommend using the Color Rub hair chalks on sections underneath the top layer of hair so that the bright colours can peak through the blonde hair! Go as subtle or as bold as you like with the Hair Flairs hair chalk, or experiment further with a semi-permanent pastel colour like pink or lilac for something completely new!

Another way to add some colour to your blonde hair that’s bound to impress at Christmas parties is the Hair Flairs Pro Hair Tinsel. Professional quality hair tinsel that has been designed and tested by stylists, the thin and lightweight hair tinsel feels soft and silky like hair. Made from 100% high-grade, heat-resistant polyester fiber, you can even shampoo, blow-dry, and use heated stylers on them! The glittery, light reflecting hair tinsel is a great way to update blonde hair for the festive season.

How ever you decide to change up your look for the colder season, there’s so many options to explore. From subtle highlights and ombre hair extensions, to pastel hair and funky hair tinsel that are ideal for Christmas parties! Let us know how you’ve chosen to update your blonde hair this winter season by tagging us in your pictures on Instagram!

Say ‘I Do’ To Summer Wedding Hair Inspiration

Wedding bells are ringing as the spring season gets underway, and brides-to-be are counting down the days ‘til they tie the knot. With the venue, dress and guestlist sorted, what’s left for the bride to do than consider her hair for the big day? At Additional Lengths, we’ve seen some absolutely perfect bridal hair looks and want to share a few of our favourite wedding hairstyles with you.

From fashion runway to the aisle

Taking inspiration from hairstyles seen on the catwalk can be a great way to freshen up your bridal hair Pinterest boards. Bridal Fashion Week showcased some of the latest creations from many well known fashion designers’ bridal ranges, but of course, we showed a lot more interest in what was happening with the hair!

Here are some of the top styles showcased at Bridal Fashion Week 2017:

  • A 1920s’, flapper girl inspired bob with side parting and waves.
  • Natural waves with plenty of texture, pinned to one side with embellished hair clip.
  • Low ponytail tied with bow, loose tendrils of hair framing the face.

An elegant up-do

Such a classic wedding hairstyle, the up-do can be created in so many visually pleasing ways! Embrace the braid hair trend of 2017 and work several braids into one up-do, working in plenty of different textures for that casual finish. If you prefer a more sleek wedding up-do, a chic chignon or bun can work wonders to elongate the neck, show off earrings and just generally look fabulous. With hairspray, pins and creativity, a traditional up-do can be refreshed and updated for a more personalised finish. We love the volume of loosely pinning up curled or waved hair, allowing some bits to fall around the face.

Remi Cachet hair extensions can be worn up or down effortlessly to create a bridal hair look

A popular wedding hair look is the half-up-half-down hairstyle which keeps hair off the face, while also having some length at the back. The top section of hair can be twisted and braided for extra texture, and the bottom half treated to loose waves for a whimsical finish.

Long locks for a special day

Walk down the aisle with a completely special look, different from your usual hair, with hair extensions. A day with long locks can transform and elevate your personal style. We have an exceptional range of Remi Cachet hair extensions available at Additional Lengths that come in an array of beautiful shades and tones to perfectly match your natural hair colour, and with different application method options. The tape in hair extensions can provide a temporary look, providing volume, thickness and length for the duration of your special day, while more permanent extensions, such as the Remi Cachet Ultra Tips, offer a longer lasting option that can be easily styled for your perfect wedding hair look.

An example of the beautiful long blonde Remi Cachet hair extensions styled in loose waves

Bridesmaid hairstyles

Whether you’re having a sister, a close best friend or a whole fleet of them, bridesmaids can rock a special ‘do for your special day, too. At Additional Lengths, we absolutely love the on-trend loose waves look; it’s ultra feminine and works really well on all hair lengths. With the GHD Classic Wave Wand the ladies can even do their own hair to perfection, with the easy-to-use curling wand which creates consistent waves. GHD are renowned for high-quality heated stylers, which provide professional results. By using the GHD Classic Wave Wand (and a spritz of hairspray), your bridesmaids hairstyles will remain in place all day and night!

Hair accessories

The classic veil has so much traditional appeal, but sometimes a little refresh can be a good thing. Show off your hair by leaving the veil alone and opting for hair accessories that will bring additional embellishment to the hair for your special day. Even going for a tiara will still be in keeping with the timeless bridal hair accessory look, but will offer a bit more sparkle than a full veil. Beads and diamantes can look beautiful with the right placement, and offer just the right amount of sparkle to be subtle and tasteful. This bridal hair accessory option would look exquisite with brunette or auburn hair as the contract between the hair shade and the embellishment would make for a stand out look. Better still, wind the beads into the hair through a plait for a stunning hair adornment every bride would love.

Take it back to your childhood with a pretty hair band which can provide a bohemian look if decorated with flowers, or why not go full flower power with a floral crown? They can match your bouquet for a co-ordinated look.

We hope that you’re willing to say ‘I do’ to our beautiful wedding hair ideas for your big day. With so many bridal hairstyle options to ponder over, from Remi Cachet hair extensions to accessories, you’ll find that the perfect wedding day hairstyle for you is just waiting to be tried out! Whether you’re working with a professional hairstylist for the day, or doing your own hair, it’s amazing what you can achieve when it comes to your wedding hair dreams!

A Brief History Of Hair Extensions

Here at Additional Lengths, we’re interested in all things hair. From what our favourite celebrity is doing with their tresses this week, to the latest social media craze (unicorn hair, anyone?), we love being in the know. If, like us, you’re curious about the story behind hair extensions, then take a look at our brief history of hair extensions to learn more about the origins of our favourite beauty accessory. You may be surprised by the longevity of this popular hair trend!

Style like an Egyptian

Surprisingly, the first documented origin of hair weaves can be dated back to Ancient Egypt. Appearance was very important during this time period and the process of beautification was highly thought of, with a lot of time and money spent on creating the perfect look. Ancient Egyptians observed a hierarchy of status through their appearance, with hair weaves and wigs often being worn by those higher up in society, for example, by Pharaohs, political figures and wealthy families. Not only were wigs worn by women, but also by men and children! Hair pieces at this stage in history were created using human hair and dyed sheep’s wool, and were often attached by sewing into knots of the person’s real hair.

The infamous ruler of Ancient Egypt, the alluring Cleopatra was also a fan of utilising hair braids and wigs to add to her undeniable beauty. She favoured the conventional black dyed hair extensions, preferring a fringe and tightly curled mid-lengths, and would add decadent gold beads to the ends for a touch of glamour. Egyptian wigs were the height of fashion back in B.C times.

Big wig of the century

French King Louis XIV was quite the trend-setter during his reign in the 18th century. When the king became rather thin on top, his tireless team of servants hired a staggering amount of wig-makers to save his majestic appearance by creating a series of large and lengthy wigs. Often seen in royal paintings, men wore big wigs to undoubtedly hide the balding and greying that comes with age, in an attempt to keep their youth. The wig pieces that men wore also acted as a status enhancement. Ever heard of the phrase ‘big wig’? There you go!

Hair during the 18th and 19th centuries were often collected from the poor, with women from the working classes growing their hair in order to sell it. Real hair wigs fetched a huge amount in those times – up to a weeks wages!

1960’s beehive

A symbol synonymous with 60’s style is the beehive, which was achieved with fake hair often attached to a hair band. At this time, long hair extensions were not too commonly used as they were deemed rather expensive. Girl bands such as The Ronettes rocked the beehive look perfectly, with soft bangs and high hair teamed with shift dresses becoming their signature look. At Additional Lengths we stock a range of instant beehive hair pieces that can be worn to achieve this same 60’s inspired look!

It was during the 1980’s that hair weaves were favoured by women with Afro textured hair, opting for a hair weave over potentially damaging chemical relaxers, which offered them a new straighter hair finish.

Girl power of the 1990’s

Hair extensions rose in popularity and became used by the masses during the decade of the 1990’s. New and less expensive techniques were developed ensuring widespread popularity, with the clip-in hair extensions becoming commonly used due to their cost and availability. It was also around this time that coloured hair pieces were popular, with pastel blue and baby pink streaks featuring in many young girl’s hair dreams.

Again, during this time celebrities were influencing our hairstyles. Supermodels such as Tyra Banks were seen wearing hair extensions on the international fashion catwalks during the 1990’s, and in early 2000 legendary singer Britney Spears sported some impressive extensions for her ‘Oops!… I Did It Again’ music video.

Noughties to now

With celebs such as the Kardashian sisters rocking different hair looks at every event, we as the general public are also using hair extensions to change up our style. Plus, the development of the quality of hair extensions, including the creation of beautiful Remy hair extensions, means that we’re able to use extensions not only for length, but for volume and to add subtle tones of colour.

It’s interesting to see how the creation of hair extensions has revolutionised the possibilities in hairstyling, and the rich history of hair extensions just proves how long lasting and much loved the process of adding length and volume to natural hair has been over the years. We don’t think that the obsession with hair extensions will slow down anytime soon! Four Spring Hairstyles To Rock This Season

Is it just us or did winter seem to have an extra couple of months added onto it? However, spring is finally here, and it’s time to shed the heavy coats, don the sunglasses and explore some new hairstyles for the upcoming season. Here at Additional Lengths, we love taking a peek at what styles were favoured on the catwalks over fashion week and reporting back on what we’ve discovered. So let’s take a look at a few hairstyles and hair trends for 2017 we’re excited to see for spring.

Switch up that parting

Changing your parting is such an easy way to restyle your hair. There’s no commitment or cost to it! Plus, it works well with what ever length of hair. A side parting with poker straight hair is such a sleek look, it’s perfect for taking you from the boardroom to the dancefloor.

Some side parting hairstyle tips:

  • Help hair stick to the new parting by blow drying it in the direction of the part
  • Tuck one side behind your ear and hold in place with a bobby pin
  • Use a hair serum, such as the GHD Smooth & Finish Serum, to add shine and finish with a spritz of hairspray

Enjoy your new side parting, but just be sure to not take experimentation too far – need we remind you of the 90’s zig zag parting? Yikes.

How high can you go?

This spring season is without a doubt focused on the simple high ponytail. Hair extensions can really elevate a ponytail from drab to fab with it’s addition of shiny length. Gain some extra height by bending your head downwards and gathering the hair into a hair tie at the crown, then smoothing down the flat parts with a little serum or hairspray to keep flyaways tamed. Add a metallic hair accessory for an on-trend finish, or wrap a small section of hair around the base of the pony to hide the hair tie and bring the look up to date.

The clip-in hair extensions and clip-in ponytails available here at Additional Lengths would be a good way to begin that sky high ponytail.

Bohemian waves

Waved hair gives the illusion of volume, enhances texture and depth whilst looking carefully styled. And it’s a spring hairstyle that every girl can get on board with. To create gorgeous waves, we recommend using a hair wand, such as the GHD Curve Classic Wave Wand which provides the perfect styling tool to achieve long lasting soft waves. Start from the mid lengths and leave an inch or two at the ends for natural looking waves.

A totally effortless way to get luxurious bohemian-style waves? Premium quality human hair extensions from Remi Cachet. With their collection of beautiful real hair extensions you’re able to sit back and enjoy the process of gaining some exceptional style added to your own hair. Continue with your hair extension aftercare and enjoy your Remi Cachet extensions all season.

Get braiding

We’re not talking just any braids, but the elusive fish tail braid. It’s a great take on the traditional three section braid, but slightly more time consuming. But the extra time spent on it definitely pays off! Work some texturising spray onto the hair before beginning and roughen up the finished look for a slightly lived-in hairstyle that screams ‘I woke up like this’.

Last season models on the catwalk sported mini plaits as a way to add texture to the hair. Next time you decide to wear your hair loose, why not try a few randomly placed micro braids to jazz it up? You could also take the braid all the way from ear to ear, in a hairband style for a cute casual hairstyle.

Springtime colours

The ombre hair colour trend is still proving popular, and we love the sun bleached ends look. A carefully executed root stretch can also provide the lighter look if you’re keen to add some soft depth to your current hair colour. We’re also loving the strawberry blonde trend, a la superstar Adele, which warms up the face and creates a golden glow, making it perfect for pale skinned goddesses. Jesy Nelson from the hottest band around Little Mix has also been experimenting with this popular shade.

You could also take a walk on the wilder side of spring by deferring from the usual lighter route, and go darker. Chocolate brown is a delicious shade favoured by models such as Kendal Jenner and Bella Hadid who live for the ultimate shiny dark hair style.

How To Wash Clip-In Hair Extensions

We understand that you’ll want to get the most out of your clip-in hair extensions, and doing so requires a little care and attention to keep them looking in top condition. Washing the hair gets rid of any products you’ve applied, any smells from smoky environments, and also revives the look of the extensions. At Additional Lengths, we place a high importance on hair care and the care of all hair extensions. We want you to enjoying wearing the extensions, and feel good doing so!

Follow our step by step guide on how to wash human hair clip-in extensions and get them looking their best and feeling fresh.

Step 1: Prepare the hair for washing

As with your natural hair, it’s important to brush or comb the hair before washing to smooth out any tangles or knots so it’s easier to wash. For ease, lay the hair pieces together on a flat surface to do this.

Step 2: Fill sink or bath with lukewarm water

Lay the human hair extensions in a sink or bath of lukewarm water, avoiding getting the clip in sections wet so you can hold them comfortably. It’s easier to wash all of the hair pieces together, rather than individually.

Step 3: Use normal shampoo and conditioner

Mix some shampoo in with the lukewarm water to create a soapy ‘bath’ for the hair and pop the clip-ins in, ensuring that they are thoroughly immersed in the shampoo water.

We have some Additional Lengths hair extension hair care products available on site, including a shampoo and conditioner which have been formulated to cleanse and improve the texture of your hair. For the Remi Cachet hair extensions, there are also some specialised products available that are suitable for use with the human hair extensions. The Remi Cachet Hair Extension Conditioner includes penetrating oils to help nourish the hair and leave it silky soft.

Lift the hair pieces from the sink and drain the water, leaving the wet clip-ins ready for shampoo and conditioner. Rub the product gently into the mid-lengths and ends to cleanse them effectively.

Tip: If your blonde clip-ins are getting brassy, use a purple toned shampoo to cool it down!

Step 4: Rinse

After shampooing and conditioning the hair, rinse thoroughly under a running tap of lukewarm water. Any remaining shampoo or conditioner can leave the hair looking greasy and lank, so make sure you’re rinsing well, until the water runs clear with no bubbles.

Step 5: Squeeze hair to get rid of excess water and brush out tangles

Just as you would with your own natural hair, gently squeeze the water out from top to bottom using a towel to remove most of the moisture. Use a brush or comb to smooth down the hair and ensure there are no tangles.

Tip: You can use a nourishing leave-in conditioner but apply sparingly to avoid a greasy finish.

Step 6: Leave to dry naturally

Set the damp extensions on a flat surface or hang them up to dry naturally. Try to avoid using a hairdryer on your clip-ins because you might damage them, especially if they are synthetic!

Tip: We would recommend that if you wear your clip-in extensions on a daily basis, give them a wash once a week.
