As we begin the transition from winter to summer, there are a few things that you should start to change about your beauty and hair routine. To help, we at Additional Lengths have put together a list of our favourite products for the month, ideal for the transition into spring and summer.
Fake the fringe
A big style for SS16 is a full fringe, but who wants to commit to a dramatic hair style when it may take a while to grow? Instead, you can fake the fringe with our bang clip-in extensions, available in a wide variety of hair colours to ensure the perfect match. We love this product and we are confident that you will too.
Easy texture and length
Looking for a simple way to transform your hair, add length and body? Then the Syn Wavy Hair Extension piece by Halo is ideal for you. It can be applied in the morning in a matter of minutes, shortening your get-ready time completely.
Moisture for the summer
As it gets warmer, your hair will get drier. Help our your hair during the summer months by adding moisture, repairing damaged hair and providing it with all of the nourishment you possibly can. Jenoris Hair Care Oil Hair Treatment is great for this.
An updo is a style that, once mastered, can bring a fashionable and sophisticated feel to any look. The tricky part is mastering them! Although many updos can look complicated, most are actually pretty quick and easy to do once you learn how. Here are some of our top tips at Additional Lengths to create the perfect updo.
The Sleek Updo
This kind of updo works best on freshly washed, shiny hair and creates a look that is sleek and polished – ideal for special occasions. Wash and condition your hair then work through with a tangle taming comb or brush, such as the Tangle Teezer, before drying. For especially dry or frizzy hair, we would recommend working in some Moroccan Oil Hydrating Style Cream to ensure your dried hair is as sleek and shiny as possible. You can also use straighteners once your hair is dried, to keep the style looking neat and polished.
Once your hair is prepared, check out the following tutorial from Sharon Blain. This video shows how to create a stylish updo, using a clip in ponytail.
To finish we’d recommend using the Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray. This will not only hold your updo in place, but will give an added layer of beautiful shine. And voila! One sleek, easy updo that takes little effort and yet looks amazing!
The Messy Updo
The messy updo is perfect for those days when you don’t have time to wash your hair. Here your best friends are dry shampoo and hair curlers. A dry shampoo or texturising spray will stop the hair from looking flat and oily, giving it the grip it needs to perfect this look. A hair curler, such as this Yogi Hair Wand, is great for curling any loose strands of hair, giving a laid-back and stylish finished look.
The following video, from MissAlex on Youtube, shows how to achieve the perfect messy updo.
Again, we’d recommend finishing this look with hairspray. The Big Spray & Play Volume Hairspray is ideal for a messy updo, adding volume and texture while keeping your style in place all day.
The weekend’s ultimate Californian music festival has us pinning for summer already and has set the trends for the summer festivals back here in Blighty. Celebs like to let their hair down, get away with a messy do and relish the chance to mix things up with a different style each day. We’ve picked out the top 3 styles to recreate this summer with Remi Cachet hair extensions.
1) Vanessa Hudgens is suitably boho with her hair down and a fresh flower tucked behind her ear. Recreate her super volume with the Super Weft in our 20” longer length and using plenty of smaller plaits to create the tight waves, gentle brushes out.
2) Hailey Baldwin had the hair accessory of the festival – the bandana to keep her stray strands from her face in the desert wind. We love her different colour tones and new purple ombre which can be created with hair chalks. Plenty more celebs were trying out the colour box too with Kylie Jenner’s rainbow plaits & Poppy Delvigne’s pink. This is a great day two look.
3) Suki Waterhouse wins the glamour look for the pool party. Try our Ombre DD6/10+22 with our Ultra Tips to get her long locks styled with textured undone curls.
Check out the coolest hair from the festival at Glamour but we can guarantee all of them need to care for their hair extensions with the Remi Cachet aftercare range after the weekend and the new Miracle Mist in their bag to help detangle their tresses and lock in moisture on the sunshine.
Perhaps it’s the due to the cold weather or maybe you have just neglected giving your hair a little ‘me’ time. If your hair has been over-processed due to styling tools or damaged due to intense hair dyes, don’t worry we have the answer! Here at Additional Lengths we have compiled a list of the best ways to repair that dry hair.
When it comes to avoiding drying your hair out, we would suggest;
Try and stay away from over washing your hair and where possible let your hair air dry rather than blow drying. If you do use styling tools, make sure you apply a heat defence product before use.
Aim to occasionally use a leave-in conditioner after you have showered – apply when the hair is partially air dried for best results.
Try and swap your regular shampoo for a low sulphate or sulphate free shampoo. Sulphate shampoo can strip your hair of the natural oils, causing it to dry out in the long run.
If you follow our hair care tips already and you’re looking for something to add into your routine, take a look at our two favourite options. Argan Oil
One of the most hyped about products on the market has to be Argan oil and in particular Moroccan Oil. This product is 100% natural and loved by women with dry and/or frizzy hair. Use it when your hair is in need of a deep condition, as a styling oil or even to finish off a look when in need of that extra something.
If you’re in need of a few tips on how to use this much loved product, we’d say apply a small amount to the mid lengths and ends of towel dried hair. Once dried, whether you air dry or blow dry – why not use a little bit to tame flyaways or aid split ends?
If you’re slightly in doubt of this product, here at Additional Lengths we offer the Moroccan Oil Repair Trio, perfect if you’re just looking to try them out first before you cave and invest!
A nourishing mask can really give your hair that extra love it needs prior to styling. Ultra rich and packed with all the good stuff, the Jenoris Hair Care Keratin Hair Mask is our favourite.
A Keratin Mask helps improve your hair’s resistance to breakages and damage from chemical products. As well as moisturising the hair and giving it back that healthy, balance and vital appearance.
Here at Additional Lengths, we know hair extensions in and out, and offer an extensive range for our customers to choose from. Whether you’re interested in pre-bonded options, tape in extensions or clip-in extensions, we can help you ensure that they’re applied correctly. Today we’re going to discuss clip-in extensions and the different ways you can apply these, which sometimes may depend on your hair type.
Compared to pre-bonded extensions, clip-ins give you the option to choose your hair length every day, meaning that you can have a variety of choices ready for any occasion. Below are some of the ways you can apply clip-in extensions to last you all day long.
Long but fine applications
For those with long but fine hair, you may want to apply hair extensions to give yourself extra volume, especially handy when it comes to curly and voluminous styles. We have a tutorial on this that may be helpful to watch, especially the use of the mirror when applying extensions into your own hair. Simply section the hair using a comb, and clip the pieces around the line you’ve created – backcombing the hair where you apply the clips is a good way to give the extensions extra hold, should you need it; this is helpful with fine hair.
Short hair applications
If you’ve recently had a pixie cut or short bob cut in and want to change up your look, you can still achieve a long style with clip-ins. A misconception is that you’re unable to use any hair extensions when you’re hair is short, but it just takes a bit of skill and knowledge to get right, blending in the correct places. Youtuber LLimWalkter has a great tutorial for this, teaching you how to properly blend with the shorter pieces. Sometimes you may need to trim them slightly to suit your frame, but it’s wise to ask a salon professional for this, just in case something goes wrong; extensions can’t grow back.
