All in the name of research our founder, Victoria Lynch, and Educator Abigail Nicholls, headed to Vegas and the biggest hair show in the world – Cosmoprof. It didn’t disappoint one little bit and the four day trip was packed full of Vegas fun, testing, walking and the wonderful world of hair & beauty.
Well it was off to a good start celeb spotting Ronan Keeting in the Exec Lounge at Heathrow before the long haul flight and a cheeky glass of bubbles if only to steady our Victoria’s flying nerves.
If you’ve never been to a Cosmoprof like Bologna in Italy, they are big. But when it get’s to Vegas it is super sized – just check out the map below! Where to start? Well naturally the girls were more interested in all things hair extension related but its also a great chance to catch up with friends and a stop by fellow Brits Tangle Teezer. “The Hair Show was ENORMOUS- we walked miles” Abigail.
The girls were reportedly up bright and early to be testing their hair extension bundles for the effects of chlorine, sun and hotel filtered water. We have some great results to report back but that’s be for another blog now!
Sight seeing was a must when they were all the way in Vegas – the usual tourist trail of the Little White Chapel, the revolving Stratosphere cocktail lounge, a shooting range (Yep you read the right and don’t ask!) as well as a spot of Louis Vuitton window shopping just for Abigail!
Whilst it was a great experience Abigail and Victoria, they were happy to be home and looking forward to a British hair event – Salon International is up next.
See you there!
We’re pining for another heat wave here, but before it comes make sure you have your summer haircare regime is sorted with out top tips. As the heat rises, it’s all about moisturising those tresses to make sure they still look healthy even if we are recreating a messy beach wave look.
Sun protection is just as important for our locks as for our skin. The sun’s rays not only zap the moisture from our hair but can also affect our colour too. The best defence here is your sun hat, but it’s also a great excuse to try out some fun hairstyles that reduce the amount of hair exposed to the sunshine. Cute pigtail plaits look gorgeous on style icon Alexa Chung, or a top knot will help keep you cool as well as on trend. Beach waves are easily created by simply undoing the plaits and using your fingers to brush through the waves. Here’s another 48 styles to keep your summer tresses stylish.
Make sure you use the Remi Cachet Shampoo & Conditioner as they have been specifically formulated to work with extensions and any Remi Cachet bond type. They will ensure your hair is squeaky clean and super hydrated; and there’s absolutely no excuse as they come in three different bottle sizes: 100ml perfect for going away, 250ml and 1L to keep you going well into winter!
Fighting the frizz is a daily challenge but Remi Cachet’s Hair Oil can work magic here. You only need a small amount on damp hair and work from the tips up the hair avoiding the bonds and scalp area.
Check out our earlier blog on the hazards of holidays with your hair extensions to make sure your are pool savy.

Achieving the perfect festival look can often include hair extensions, both synthetic and human. You can plait them overnight for a boho-chic look and add a flower crown, create a complex up-do hairstyle and even cover unwashed hair with a strategic clip-in. However, as extensions should be an investment to receive true quality and value for money, you’ll need to look after them properly.
As we know, festivals aren’t known for offering quick and simple shower facilities, meaning that you’ll often have to wait in queues for hours on end to feel some water on your skin. But with no running water, how do you make sure that you keep your extensions in the best shape throughout your stay? Follow our helpful guide to festival human hair extension care and there should be nothing to worry about.
Most festivals are held in fields and when you pair hot weather with dry mud and high foot traffic, it spells dust. You’ll often find that your shoes can become covered with mud dust and other dry resources, and this can cling to your extensions too, resulting in a lack of moisture and requiring extra effort to style them. There’s not much that can be done to avoid this, but there are a few options that you have to look after your extensions, even at least until you get home.
- Moroccan Oil: Moroccan Oil should be considered a saviour for anyone with damaged hair or dry extensions as it adds moisture and smoothness. Simply rub a small droplet into your hands and run it through your extensions lightly to rectify your hair. The Moroccan Oil Repair & Style Travel Kit is perfect to take with you. If you have the time, you can also use the campsite water to shampoo, condition and then air dry your extensions with this kit.
- Vitamin Spray: At Additional Lengths, we have our own range of beautiful hair extension aftercare products and our hair Hair Extension Vitamin Spray should be a staple part of your festival beauty bag. Containing an array of vitamins including D-Panthenol Vitamin E, this leave-in treatment will help you revitalise hair that’s tired and in distress. You can use it either before you set off on your journey or take it with you for a refresh without running water.
It’s not unusual for the British summertime to bring us cooler days, especially when at festivals. For this reason, we’ll also be taking a look at how to keep your extensions in top condition when it may be raining or windy. Use the following tips as a guide.
- Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray: If the weather is cool, it may mean that it’s also windy too. Wind can not only ruin a hairstyle but can make it feel dry and coarse too. That’s why we recommend that if you take one hairspray with you to a festival, it should be the Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray. Infused with the enriching oil that leaves hair silky smooth, this hairspray adds shine and moisture to hair without any build up to keep your hair in place, whatever the weather.
- Jenoris Pistachio Hair Mask: If it’s unfortunately raining, you may want to skip using extensions for the day as it could cause more hassle than you need and get in the way of your poncho. Instead, give your extensions a well-needed rest with the Jenoris Pistachio Hair Mask. Wet the hair and lightly cover the extensions with the mask. Leave it on for the recommended time and then wash it off, placing your extensions up to dry. After this, they should feel nourished and smoother, ready to place back in when the weather lets you.
With our handy guide, you should be well-equipped for all weathers and ready to face the festival season with confidence. If you have any questions regarding or products or would like more advice on how to care for your human hair extensions, please get in touch and we’ll be able to help.
It’s a busy week here with our MD and educator at Cosmoprof in Vegas (more on that next week) and also the Salon Business Awards which our Remi Cachet brand are proud sponsors for. So we sent our marketing team down to represent us and hand out the prizes and here’s their report back.
It was all aboard the exclusive Yacht on the Thames for the second Salon Business Awards this year and with over 150 hairdressers there to enjoy the champagne reception and see if their salon or stylist had won a converted award. The Laurent Perrier was flowing nicely which helped ease the gentle swaying on the boat; stylists were on good form, pleased to be together and enjoy the warm weather, magician and club music.
With 12 awards up for grabs the award ceremony was swift to put everyone at ease. The full list of winners can be found on Remi Cachet’s Twitter feed from the night with images. This was the second year Remi Cachet have sponsored the award for Education signalling the importance the team put on training – whether this is learning a new skill or a stylist’s continual personal development.
Our MD Victoria Lynch was one of the select judges who had the onerous task of scrutinising the entries and picking a winner last month. In presenting the award to HOB Camden, it was noted they had understood that their team is their most valuable asset and has their own dedicated academy where they can offer apprenticeships and ongoing training. They also work closely with some of the best brands in the industry to ensure their education is comprehensive from junior all the way up to manager. Emma Seldon presented the award on behalf of Remi Cachet and alongside Salon Business Editor Jo Charlton. As part of the prize, HOB will now be given the opportunity to train with Remi Cachet, so watch this space.
There were plenty of happy stylists – even those without a trophy and certificate. The evening continued with asian style bowl food and a magician wowing everyone with his card tricks. We still haven’t a clue how he did it! Music got the party started whilst guests explored the luxury yacht with some beautiful seating areas to admire the views across the embankment. There was an ‘award faces’ competition on social media too – check out the hashtag #SBAwards to see these. Sloping away before the end, leaving the hairdressers to party as only a hairdresser can, we had a great night, shared with some great people.
We will have to wait for the official images in next month’s issue of Salon Business and keep our eye’s peeled for more from this year’s winners.
Here’s to SBAwards2016.
It was good to see Jessie J back on stage at Wireless over the weekend after her recent hospital stint. Even better tosee her back to her signature long black locks. Here we talk you through getting Jessie’s perfect festival style for yourself.
Jessie has never been shy to use extensions and to get these extra long 20” tresses try the Remi Cachet Superweft in Colour 1 Jet Black. This weft is perfect for adding some volume and also the Russian/Mongolian hair will hold the curl nicely too.
Make sure you use a professional extensionist to apply your extensions and Find your Nearest #RCStylists here who can try the latest Hollywood Weave technique to apply the weft – this is the safest method to reduce tension and safely allow your hair to continue to grow. It’s also super easy to move up at your maintenance appointment.
Styling wise the Remi Cachet Hair Oil is essential to help fight frizz and as a styling aid. Create effortless waves with your straighteners or curling tool and brush your fingers through for a loose effect.
What really caught our eye with Jessie’s look this weekend is the hair beads. If you’re an avid reader of our earlier blogs, you will know we keep harping on about accessories on trend for the year and here is a great little gem to try. We’ve found some lovely one’s on Etsy and also on Claire’s Accessories. They are really easy to use and here help keep stray hairs from Jessie’s face.
You can also try teasing the hair between the beads on the same section to add more volume and texture; or even small plaits and use the beads to secure these. Now that’s got to be a great festival look.
Give it a go and share your snaps with us on social media.
If you are after more festival looks to try – check out our earlier blog on trends for 2015.
You have probably already seen we have been working closely with the team at Hairdressers Journal to create a new competition for Extension Specialists. This was launched last month and will be held at this years Salon International in October.
We asked our MD Victoria why she approached HJ to get involved with this, “It was important for us to have a competition open to any brand and any application method to enter; but also one that judges the entrants on their application technique as much as the final look. We want it to be a celebration of the great work professional extensionist’s are doing everyday and we are really excited to see the entries and creativity on the day.”
For those of you with a little stage fright, the competition area is a closed space where you can complete your model whilst the judges mingle amongst you and ask you more about your creations and work. Only the winner heads to the stage for the actual presentation alongside the other competition winners – Afro Stylist of the Year, Barber of the Year, Bridal Hairdresser of the Year and also Rising Star. See that’s not so bad is it.
We already know the entries are pouring in but if you still haven’t sussed it out yet here’s the full competition details, all the rules and the all important entry form – it’s all online!
So have a look through your work and enter. Let’s celebrate great extension work!
